Tell me about Jazz and it's musicians?

I love a lot of jazz that I hear but I know nothing about it and am
having a hard time researching it simply due to the vastness of it and
lack of time to do so.

So yea I suppose I'm looking for what ever I need to know about Jazz
to understand whats doing on types of jazz and stuff as well as i list
of musicians or bands because i have no idea where to look for the
great jazz musicians or what ever.

I'm horribly Ignorent i know.

The only Jazz band I know is The Seatbelts who did the sound track for
Anima Cowboy Bebop.
